Principal music director, conductor of the gala
Péter Halász has been music director of the Hungarian State Opera since April 2014, where he had been acting music director since August 2013 whe he returned to Hungary after several years of international career.
He studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. His master was an acclaimed interpreter of the Viennese classics, conductor Leopold Hager. Following his studies he began his career as répétiteur of the Zurich Opera, then he worked as conducting répétiteur, later conductor at the Staatstheater Mainz for seven years. Between 2011 and 2013 he was principal conductor and deputy principal music director of the Theater Aachen. His repertoire includes more than 35 operas from the baroque era to contemporary pieces. In the 2014/15 season of the Hungarian State Opera he conducts the premieres of Così fan tutte by Mozart, Der Freischütz by Weber and Das Rheingold by Wagner.
